Restless legs syndrome (RLS) is a neurological disorder often described as a creeping, crawling, tingling, burning or aching feeling in the calves, thighs, feet or arms. Sufferers usually feel like getting up and moving around, which makes the unpleasant restless legs syndrome feelings go away.
Sleep and RLS
Restless legs syndrome is worse at night and can disrupt sleep, leading to daytime drowsiness. Most people with RLS find it difficult to get to sleep or stay asleep. Bed partners of those with RLS also experience sleep loss, waking from their partner's twitching or kicking during sleep. Restless legs syndrome may also prevent daytime napping. It is common for symptoms to improve or disappear, then worsen or come back.
