More women come to the Josephine Ford Cancer Center for breast cancer screenings, treatment and surgery than any other health care institution in Michigan. More than 60,000 women each year receive a mammogram and more than 500 breast cancer surgeries are performed.
Diagnostic Breast Clinic Care providers work together to rapidly diagnose breast cancer in women with a breast lump or an abnormal mammogram. In one visit, patients are examined by a breast surgeon and a radiologist and may undergo several diagnostic services. This allows patients to have access to multiple services in one visit and provides peace of mind with a timely diagnosis. If diagnosed with cancer, patients have the option of participating in the Josephine Ford Cancer Center's Breast Cancer Clinic.
Breast Cancer Clinic The Breast Cancer Clinic begins with an educational seminar, provided before the patient meets with a breast surgeon, medical oncologist, radiation oncologist and, if needed, a plastic surgeon. This appointment provides patients with time to have questions answered, options discussed and treatment plans reviewed. The coordinated consultations significantly shorten the time from diagnosis to treatment. The Josephine Ford Cancer Center is in the forefront of minimally invasive diagnostic and treatment options for breast cancer.
Treatment Options
The Best of Medicine The Josephine Ford Cancer Center was the first to offer Sentinel Lymph Node Biopsy in southeastern Michigan. This surgical procedure for breast cancer locates the first lymph node, allowing surgeons to biopsy it to determine if the cancer has spread.
