At 2 p.m. today, Monday, Jan. 12, a man will undergo robotic procedure for the removal of his cancerous bladder at Henry Ford Hospital. The procedure will be transmitted by satellite to large screens for an audience of more than 400 physicians at the 2009 International Robotic Urology Symposium in Las Vegas.
Because it is a teaching tool, Henry Ford physicians will comment on the operation for the audience.
But another audience - by another form of communication - will also have the opportunity to follow the operation. The operation will be twittered by Dr. James Peabody from the operating room.
Users of Twitter create messages 140 characters or less, called "tweets." Dr. Peabody will provide a running commentary and update of activities.
