Henry Ford Health System Offers Unique Smoking Cessation Program
DETROIT - Henry Ford Health System is offering a unique six-week smoking cessation program for smokers determined to kick the habit that applies a concept deployed in the successful 12-step alcohol sobriety process.
A Henry Ford-trained smoking cessation counselor will facilitate the weekly 90-minute sessions, but it will be the group members who turn to each other for mutual support and encouragement in their quest to stop smoking. The program is called Tobacco Free for Life.
"This program is for people who are very serious about quitting, people who have tried to quit but have been unsuccessful," says Dorothy Molitor, manager of Tobacco Treatment Services for Henry Ford's Center for Health Promotion and Disease Prevention.
"We believe the group approach will empower the group members to help each other finally overcome this difficult challenge and lead a healthier lifestyle." Anyone interested is required to schedule a free smoking assessment by calling 1-888-427-7587.
The six sessions will be held from 6 - 7:30 p.m. every Thursday, beginning Feb. 12 at Henry Ford Wyandotte Hospital, located at 2333 Biddle, in Wyandotte.
The program is free for HAP HMO members or $150 for those without HAP HMO coverage. For more information, call 1-888-427-7587 or visit www.henryford.com/tobaccofree.
