Since 1987, the Henry Ford Pancreas Transplant Program has offered new hope to patients with severe diabetes requiring transplantation of the pancreas. Many patients with the severest cases of diabetes also experience kidney failure along with the need for pancreas transplantation. For these patients Henry Ford offers simultaneous pancreas/kidney transplant or pancreas transplant following kidney transplant.
The Henry Ford Transplant Institute is one of few hospitals in Michigan performing pancreas and kidney-pancreas transplants. Our patient outcomes consistently meet or surpass the national rates.
The Henry Ford Pancreas Transplant Program provides patients a comprehensive team of specialists from endocrinology, nephrology, and transplant surgery as patients with severe diabetes begin to develop the need for transplantation.
Henry Ford's Division of Endocrinology and Metabolism, long a national leader in the care of patients with diabetes, works closely with our nationally recognized nephrology and transplant surgery specialists to help patients who may require a pancreas transplant.
Every transplant patient receives the benefit of close medical management and care from all members of the transplant team, including transplant surgery, endocrinology, nephrology, immunosuppression, nutrition, social work, and psychology.
