Inflammatory Bowel Disease Center

Director: Ann L. Silverman, M.D.

The Henry Ford Center for Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) is the first of its kind in Michigan, bringing together a team of specialists to fast-track diagnosis and treatment of patients with inflammatory bowel disease.

These chronic disorders of the gastrointestinal tract involve the intestines, frequently resulting in abdominal cramps, diarrhea, and bleeding. Patients with Crohn's disease may develop ulcers in the large and/or small intestines, but other parts of the digestive tract as well as the rectum may be affected. Ulcerative colitis affects the inner lining of the large intestine, often at the rectum. The incidence of IBD is rising, and patients require the care of different specialty physicians.

The Henry Ford IBD Center helps patients see multiple specialists on the same day, offers advanced diagnostic studies and treatment including clinical trials of new state-of-the-art medications, and provides an on-site patient education library.
