Dr. Kim attended Kyungpook University School of Medicine in Korea, where he obtained his medical degree. While studying at Kyungpook University Dr. Kim received high honors graduating Summa cum laude. He then continued his education by attending University of Iowa to study radiobiology and biophysics. Dr. Kim graduated from the University of Iowa receiving his Ph.D. in both subjects.
After completing both degrees Dr. Kim served as an intern at Montefiore Hospital in the Bronx, New York. After his internship Dr. Kim did his residency training in the department of radiation oncology at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in New York, New York. While a resident at Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center, Dr. Kim also served as a research associate at the Sloan-Kettering Institute for Cancer Research in the biophysics division.
During his career Dr. Kim has been received many academic and hospital appointments which include:
- Member and Professor at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center
- Professor of Radiation Oncology at Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, OH
- Professor at Wayne State University School of Medicine in Detroit MI
- Chairman of the Department of Radiation Oncology at Henry Ford Hospital, Detroit, MI. He is currently a Chairman emeritus at the same institution.
He has also served as a consultant in several capacities including:
- Editorial board member of Radiation Research, Clinical Cancer bulletin
- Member of the Radiation study section and Sub-committee D of National Cancer Institute of NIH
- Scientific reviewer of Department of Defense, Washington D.C.
Dr. Kim is also a member of several professional societies which include: Radiation Research Society, American Association of Cancer Research, American Medical Association, American Society of Clinical Oncology, Michigan Radiological Society and many more.
