Financial Support

The work at the Henry Ford Hospital is funded through a number of sources.  In 2007, Henry Ford Health Hospital scientists received $57.2 million from outside sources, with $35.3 million of that coming from federal agencies.

Of this total, $32 million was from grants, contracts and subcontracts awarded by the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and $3.3 million came from other federal agencies, including the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), NASA, the U.S. Department of Defense (DOD), and the National Bone Marrow Program (Figure 1). The System also received $1.5 million in Foundation awards, $500 thousand in State and local agency awards and $20 million for studies funded by the pharmaceutical and medical device industries.

In addition to the external funding, money also comes from the Henry Ford Health System Foundation - an endowment that provided $9.6 million in 2007 for salaries and discretionary lab support of our investigators.
