Bone Marrow Stem Cell Transplantation

Medical Director: Nalini Janakiraman, M.D.

Transplantation of bone marrow or stem cells offers hope and a chance for a cure for many patients. For patients diagnosed with lymphoma, multiple myeloma, acute or chronic leukemia, Hodgkin's or non-Hodgkin's disease, testicular cancer, renal cancer, myelodysplastic syndrome, or aplastic anemia, the Henry Ford Bone Marrow Stem Cell Transplant Program provides personalized care with patient outcomes equal to or better than the national rates.

Established in 1988, the nationally accredited Henry Ford Bone Marrow Stem Cell Transplant Program offers all three types of transplantation: autologous (patients receive their own cells), allogeneic (patients receive matching cells from a related or unrelated donor), and syngeneic (for identical twins only). We performed Michigan's first peripheral blood stem cell transplantation and regularly perform some of the most complex stem cell transplants in the country.

Henry Ford's team includes specialists in hematology oncology (experts in blood disorders and cancers), infectious disease, intensive care, blood bank, transplant pharmacy, transplant coordination, nursing, social work, and others. Our program is certified by the Foundation for the Accreditation of Cellular Therapy for demonstrating an exceptional level of patient care and medical and laboratory practices in stem cell transplantation.
Henry Ford Hospital houses the largest bone marrow transplant patient unit in Michigan. This state-of-the-art facility provides spacious, HEPA air-filtered, private rooms, with a walking track, family visiting rooms, and many other amenities to help patients and families feel comfortable throughout the transplant process.
