Henry Ford West Bloomfield Hospital, a 300-bed, $310 million hospital will open in July 2008 on the campus of the current Henry Ford Medical Center – West Bloomfield. Gerard van Grinsven is the president and chief executive; Christine Zambricki is the chief operating officer and chief nursing officer; Bruce Muma, M.D., is the chief medical officer and Mark Rosenblum, M.D., is the vice president of clinical programs.
Gerard van Grinsven President and Chief Executive Officer
Gerard van Grinsven joined Henry Ford in June 2006. He has more than 24 years of global experience in the luxury hospitality industry with experience in operational, corporate and general management positions. Before coming to Henry Ford, he served as vice president and area general manager for The Ritz-Carlton Hotel Company in Dearborn and as vice president and area general manager of The Ritz-Carlton hotels in Cleveland, St. Louis and Philadelphia.
During his career he has opened 20 Ritz-Carlton properties worldwide. He was a key member of the team responsible for the company winning the prestigious Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award in 1999. He also executed The Ritz-Carlton Re-Born project, which resulted in The Ritz-Carlton in Dearborn being the number one hotel in the company for improved guest and employee satisfaction scores. Van Grinsven also has served on the Henry Ford Health System Western Wayne/Downriver Board of Trustees.
Van Grinsven’s vision includes a passion for service, a total commitment to creating an environment of excellence and building successful relationships – with the community, patients, and employees.
His vision for Henry Ford West Bloomfield Hospital is for the community to embrace it as a wellness center instead of a traditional hospital. In addition to state-of-the-art equipment and best practices, the hospital will feature a spa-like setting with a pond and landscaped courtyards that contribute to a healing environment. It also will be an important source of information and education for the community.
Van Grinsven holds a bachelor of arts degree in Hotel Management from The Hotel Management School, Maastricht, The Netherlands. He is a former board member of the Detroit Regional Chamber and the Michigan Kidney Foundation. In 2003, he was named as one of the “100 Emerging Business Leaders” by the Detroit Regional Chamber.
Christine Zambricki, CRNA, MS, FAAN, joined Henry Ford in September 2006 with 25 years experience in hospital administration including 17 in senior leadership positions. She has extensive clinical and operational expertise including serving as administrative hospital director and chief nurse executive at William Beaumont Hospital in Royal Oak which she joined in 1989.
She is a fellow in the American Academy of Nursing, the most prestigious nursing designation in the world. She has received numerous awards including Alumni of the Year Award from Wayne State University College of Pharmacy and Allied Health; a tribute by the U.S. Senate for her nursing career; and Outstanding Alumni Award from the Michigan State University College of Nursing.
Her professional appointments include serving as chairperson of the Michigan Board of Nursing and Chairperson of the Governor’s Task Force on Specialty Nursing for whish she was responsible for writing the rules and regulations governing nursing specialty practice in Michigan. She also served as a member of the Professional and Technical Advisory Committee of the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Hospitals, and as past president of the American Association of Nurse Anesthetists.
She has published extensively; lectured throughout the world on health care issues; sat on the editorial boards of nursing publications and consulted for governmental and university projects.
She holds a Certificate in Health Services Management from JK Kellogg Graduate School of Management at Northwestern University in Chicago; a Master of Science in Nursing Anesthesia from Wayne State University; and a Bachelor’s of Science in Nursing from Michigan State University.
She has served as a faculty member for Michigan State University, Oakland University, Mercy College of Detroit and Wayne State University.
Bruce Muma, M.D. Chief Medical Officer
Bruce Muma, M.D., has been serving as the interim role of chief medical officer, as well as medical director of the Northern Region of the Henry Ford Medical Group.
In his role as the chief medical officer, Dr. Muma will have oversight of all medical staff functions, policies and standards and be responsible for the development and implementation of systems and processes that address quality of care outcomes, patient safety, peer review and credentialing.
In addition, he will oversee physician relationships and recruitment; facility planning and development; operational standards and performance benchmarks; and high patient, employee and physician satisfaction.
As medical director of the Northern Region of the Henry Ford Medical Group, Dr. Muma directs eight medical centers handling more than 300,000 outpatient visits annually that are staffed by 180 salaried or contracted physicians and 900 support staff. In addition, the region supports two, 24-hour emergency centers with a total of 50,000 annual visits and two ambulatory surgery centers with 8,500 cases annually. He also is medical director of Henry Ford’s Chronic Care Initiative, a demonstration project for local industry that focuses on four chronic conditions: diabetes, heart failure, coronary artery disease and depression.
Dr. Muma graduated from Wayne State University School of Medicine and completed his residency in both Internal Medicine and Pediatrics at Henry Ford Hospital. He joined Henry Ford in 1987.
Mark Rosenblum, M.D. Vice President of Clinical Programs
In addition to his new role as vice president of Clinical Programs for Henry Ford West Bloomfield Hospital, Mark Rosenblum, M.D., will continue to serve as chair of the Department of Neurosurgery at Henry Ford Hospital and co-director of the Henry Ford Neurosciences Institute and Hermelin Brain Tumor Center at Henry Ford Hospital.
As chair of the Neurosurgery Department at Henry Ford Hospital, Dr. Rosenblum is credited for making the department one of the finest in the country. In addition, he initiated and developed with colleagues the Hermelin Brain Tumor Center and Neurosciences Institute. Both are recognized as national examples of cutting-edge multidisciplinary centers that provide the latest clinical care based on new advances in medicine. Dr. Rosenblum will continue his leadership in all these areas.
In his new role, Dr. Rosenblum will be responsible for leading the development of clinical programs and processes that will enhance both the inpatient and outpatient experience for patients, practicing physicians (employed or independent) and the community. The role will also include identifying and promoting the portfolio of clinical programs for the West Bloomfield hospital; cultivating relationships with the community of patients and physicians; assisting in philanthropic activities; and assuring integration of the clinical programs with Henry Ford Hospital.
Dr. Rosenblum graduated from New York Medical College, and completed a medical internship at the University of Michigan, a clinical fellowship at the National Cancer Institute, and a residency in neurological surgery at the University of California at San Francisco, where he stayed for 19 years and rose in the ranks to professor. He joined Henry Ford in 1992.
