Dr. Conway is a pulmonary-critical care physician and has held many
leadership roles and has been a committed researcher during his long
career at Henry Ford. He has developed processes at Henry Ford Hospital
that have markedly improved outcomes in the critical care
and post-operative settings and reduced hospital acquired infections. In addition to his
many duties, Dr. Conway is also an Executive Producer
for the Minds of Medicine - Henry Ford's regular television show highlighing
the medical advances of Henry Ford physicians. In June 2004, he received
the Emmy Award for best Informational Series or Program on behalf of Henry Ford
Health System.
A graduate of Creighton University Medical School in Omaha, Nebraska, Dr.
Conway joined Henry Ford Hospital as a Resident in 1973. He served as
Chief Medical Resident in 1975 and a Fellow in Pulmonary Medicine from 1976 to
1977.
September 2004, Dr. Conway was nominated by the Michigan State Medical Society as
a 'Health Care Hero' which was sponsored by Crain's Detroit Business for
his leadership related to the Surgical Infection Prevention
work.
Dr. Conway is a nationally-recognized expert in group practices
with previous leadership roles as president of the American Medical Group
Association and co-founder and initial chair of the Group Practice Improvement
Network. As AMGA president, he developed the Acclaim Award for Quality
Improvement and continues as a judge of that annual award. Has been a
member of the work group for the Council of Accountable Physician Practices
since 2003.
Dr. Conway is very involved in the
Detroit community. He is chair of the board of directors of the
University of Detroit Jesuit High School and Academy. He is the philanthropic leader for Henry
Ford Hospital's "Men Who Cook" event - the proceeds of which
benefit the hospital's patient medical needs fund. In 2005, more than $200,000
was raised at the event.
He has received grants for six major research
projects, including studies involving the effectiveness of inhaled corticosteroids in chronic
obstructive pulmonary disease to nocturnal oxygen therapy to Pursuing Perfection
in Health Care Services. Dr. Conway has been published more than 40
times.
