Body and Structural Healing

Neuromuscular Therapy
Creating a happy balance for the whole person
The Center offers the comprehensive program of anatomically-directed St. John Neuromuscular Therapy (NMT). This internationally known form of NMT - as developed by Paul St. John - is based on the idea that misalignments of bones can be resolved by treating the soft tissues that hold misalignments. In this way, structural pain associated with these soft tissue imbalances can be eliminated. This is accomplished by examining misalignments in the patient' s whole body structure in three dimensions. By applying specific deep tissue techniques to the muscles, tendons, and fascia (connective tissue) that maintain structural misalignments, pain relief and postural balance is achieved.

NMT works well with spinal manipulations to support proper skeletal alignment and optimal health. Once the NMT practitioner has facilitated the realignment of the body structure, the patient has a new awareness of how life' s activities contribute to recurring misalignments. Through working with the practitioner, the patient develops new tools to maintain optimal alignment and freedom from structural pain. Thus, the patient becomes actively involved in his or her healing process. The patient also is advised on what other treatment approaches and lifestyle adjustments will support the maintenance of a pain-free life.

Massage Therapy
Smoothing out the problems
Massage therapy is more than a luxury. More and more, people are turning to this for relief from injuries and certain chronic and acute conditions. Massage helps to maintain good health by improving total circulation; helping the body rid itself of metabolic wastes, and helping people deal with stresses of daily life.

There are several types of massage therapy offered at the Center. Your therapist will work with you to decide which is best for you. Among the options:

  • Swedish/Relaxation Massage - a system of long strokes, kneading and friction techniques on the more superficial layers of the muscles, combined with active and passive movements of the joints to relieve stress and tension
  • Deep Tissue - focuses on releasing long-standing patterns of tension in the deeper layers of muscle tissue. This therapy uses slow strokes and deep finger pressure on the contracted areas, either following or going across the grain of muscles, tendons and connective tissue
  • Myofascial Release - a therapy to rebalance the body by releasing tension in the web of connective tissue that surrounds and connects all muscles and organs
  • Sports Massage - massage therapy focusing on muscle systems relevant to a particular sport
